Over 94% of our annual operating budget is allocated toward department salaries and benefits. Donations, community support, and business partnerships allow us to improve our services while expanding our community safety, training, and preparedness efforts in our growing city.

After nearly 19 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson, Captain Nick Wiggins completed his final shift this morning at 8:00 a.m.

For almost two decades, Capt. Wiggins answered the call with professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to serving others. His impact on the Jackson Fire Department and the community he served will not be forgotten.

We are proud to have served alongside Capt. Wiggins and grateful for the years he gave to this department and to the people of Jackson. We wish him nothing but the very best in this next chapter of life.

Thank you for your service, Captain Wiggins.

Sometimes the calls we respond to don't end when the fire is out.

Earlier this month, Jackson Fire Department crews responded to a residential fire and were able to quickly contain it, helping prevent significant damage to a neighboring home.

Recently, the residents of that neighboring home stopped by Station 2 with snacks and a heartfelt note of gratitude for A Shift crews. While firefighters never expect recognition for doing their job, gestures like these mean more than words can express.

We're grateful to serve a community that supports us just as much as we support them. To the thoughtful residents who brightened our crews' day—thank you! Your kindness is a reminder of why we do what we do.

And yes, the snacks disappeared almost as quickly as the fire did. 🚒❤️

That outlet splitter may look like it’s training for the Olympics… but if it’s powering the microwave, air fryer, coffee maker, phone chargers, and your cousin’s DJ equipment all at once — it’s probably waving a red flag. 🚩 ⚠️🔥

Overloaded surge protectors and outlet splitters can overheat and quickly become a fire hazard. These devices are designed for limited use — not to power multiple high-demand appliances at the same time.

🚫 Stop using any surge protector or splitter immediately if you notice:
• Discoloration or charring
• Melting
• Burning smells
• Signs of fire damage
• Frayed or damaged cords

⚠️ Extension cords and surge protectors should never be:
• Run under carpets or rugs
• Covered by furniture
• Pinched behind appliances
• Placed near anything that can easily catch fire

Heat gets trapped when cords can’t properly ventilate, increasing the risk of overheating and fire.

✅ Always look for devices that are laboratory tested and certified.

A good rule of thumb: if your outlet setup looks like a game of electrical Jenga… it’s time to unplug and rethink it.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference. 🇺🇸

The wonderful residents at Wesley Jackson Highlands noticed the American flag in front of their building wasn’t flying quite right after becoming clipped oddly. Truck 5 was more than happy to stop by, take a look, and get it fixed so Old Glory could wave proudly once again.

At Jackson Fire Department, serving our community goes beyond emergency calls — it’s about being there for our citizens in every way we can. We’re thankful for the opportunity to help and for the kindness shown by the residents at Wesley Jackson Highlands. ❤️🚒
