Yesterday, Engine 32 A-Shift responded to a unique rescue call — a kitten had found its way into the engine compartment of a vehicle. 🐈🚒

After some careful work and a little patience, crews were able to safely retrieve the kitten without injury.

Situations like this are a great reminder to check under the hood, tap on your vehicle, or honk the horn if you suspect an animal may be seeking warmth or shelter — especially during changing temperatures and severe weather.

Great job by Engine 32 A-Shift for showing that no call is too small when it comes to protecting lives… even the furry ones. ❤️🐾

At approximately 11:47 a.m., Engine 42 responded to a report of a vehicle fire after an individual entered Station 4 to report a car burning down the street. While en route, E42 was officially dispatched to a vehicle fire in front of a car wash on South Highland.

Upon arrival, crews found a black SUV with heavy fire showing from the engine compartment that was rapidly spreading into the passenger area. Engine 42’s crew quickly deployed a 1¾-inch attack line and aggressively extinguished the fire, bringing it under control before it could spread further.

Crews remained on scene to check for any signs of rekindle and confirmed the fire was completely out before gathering equipment, transferring command to law enforcement, and returning to service.

Great work by Engine 42 for the quick response and fast action. Remember — if you see smoke or fire coming from a vehicle, stay a safe distance away and immediately call 911.

Late Saturday night, the Jackson Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire. Working smoke alarms alerted the family to the danger, allowing everyone to safely escape the home without injury.

Crews arrived quickly, extinguished the fire, and performed ventilation and overhaul operations. Their fast actions helped limit damage to the home and prevented further extension.

This incident is another reminder of how important working smoke alarms are in every home. Make sure you have smoke alarms installed inside every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Test them monthly and replace batteries as needed.
